Faith Community is a Blue Community @ UN Water Conference 2023
During 22-24 March 2023, the United Nations is organising a global Water Conference for the first time after 1977. The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network is participating in the conference along with its partners such as PaRD and organising this side event on the World Water Day - 22 March 2023. With the onslaught of privatisation, commodification and financialisation of water, the faith communities along with the water justice movement are promoting the concept of "Blue Community" as a solution to the global water crisis. Noted speakers and experts on water justice issues from around the world will be speaking at the event.

About two billion people do not have access to safely managed drinking water and about half of world’s population do not have access to safely managed sanitation facilities. While governments, UN and CSOs are engaged in addressing the water crisis, the Blue Community is an initiative that safeguards water as human right and as a public good. It is a simple tool that communities, parishes, universities, schools, museums, and other entities can use to advocate for equitable and sustainable access to water at the local level.
