Second International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD+20)

Twenty years after the landmark 2006 International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD), the global community is gathering once again to reaffirm and advance its commitments to equitable land governance. **ICARRD+20** provides a unique platform for governments, international organizations, civil society actors, social movements, academics, and development practitioners to jointly assess progress, confront rising challenges, and forge renewed pathways toward social justice in rural areas.

When: 24-26 February 2026

Where: Cartagena, Colombia

Hosted by: Government of Colombia, FAO, civil society partners, and global social movements

Agrarian reform remains at the heart of global efforts to reduce inequality, strengthen climate resilience, and protect the rights of rural and Indigenous communities. ICARRD+20 responds to the urgent need for transformative land policies in a time of escalating land concentration, environmental degradation, and socio-economic exclusion. The conference highlights the voices of small-scale food producers, landless populations, women, and youth, placing their experiences and rights at the centre of the global agenda. Participants will explore key themes such as land justice, sustainable rural development, feminist and Indigenous perspectives on land governance, just transitions for rural economies, and the role of normative frameworks such as UNDROP. Through plenaries, expert panels, policy dialogues, and collaborative workshops, ICARRD+20 aims to drive concrete political commitments and establish stronger accountability mechanisms for the decade ahead.
