Bangladesh NGOs Network awarded UN WSIS Prize

For the 4th time, the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has been recognized as Champion by the UN World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS) Prizes 2020.

UN WSIS Prizes honor outstanding projects that leverage the power of information and communication technology (ICT) to accelerate socio-economic development. They are a mechanism to evaluate and reward stakeholders for their efforts in the implementation of WSIS outcomes. The contest, open to all WSIS stakeholders, comprises prizes in 18 categories that are directly linked to the WSIS Action Lines outlined in the Geneva Plan of Action.

BNNRC was awarded as champion for their project Digital Safety and Security for the Journalists in Bangladesh. The project aims to increase the digital and physical safety and security of Bangladeshi journalists and media professionals through capacity building. By adopting an array of digital and physical security tools and approaches, professional journalists and bloggers can be empowered to prevent and mitigate threats.

The Champions prize will be distributed by ITU Secretary General during a ceremony from April 6th-9th, 2020 at Geneva International Conference Centre as part of the annual UN WSIS Forum.
