PaRD members and partners convene at Château de Bossey for the General Assembly of Members from Sunday onward to engage the social capital and capacities vested in diverse faith communities in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda
The International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) will hold its General Assembly of Members at Château de Bossey, Switzerland on June 24th to 27th, 2018. Over 80 representatives of governmental and intergovernmental entities as well as diverse Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Faith-based Organisations (FBOs) from Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe will participate. The overarching topic of the meeting are innovative formats of cooperation to engage the social capital and capacities vested in diverse faith communities for sustainable development and humanitarian assistance in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The meeting at Château de Bossey starts with a public opening session titled “Multi-sector collaborations with faith communities and critical importance to current challenges” on Sunday, June 24th, 16:30 until 18:30. The panel features Louise Aubin (Deputy Director Division of International Protection, UNHCR), Fahad Abualnasr (Director General KAICIID), Amb. Jalel Chelba (Head Civil Society Division AU-CIDO), and Mohamed Ashmawey (President Beyaz Eller). Furthermore, an Open Forum will be held on Tuesday, June 27th, 14:00-17:30 to exchange ideas for cooperation in the field of religion and development.

In addition, the General Assembly will feature both thematic sessions in the partnership’s three work-streams and will offer members and partners the opportunity to discuss, finalize and approve PaRD’s proposed new governance structure.
The International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) brings together governmental and intergovernmental entities with diverse Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)/Faith-based Organisations (FBOs), to engage the social capital and capacities vested in diverse faith communities for sustainable development and humanitarian assistance in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The partnership currently organizes its thematic work in three work-streams aligned with the 2030 Agenda:
- Sustaining Peace (SDG 16)
- Gender Equality and Empowerment (SDG 5)
- Health (SDG 3)
PaRD aims at greater and institutionalised communication and coordination between secular and non-secular actors, while fostering new synergies through cooperation and collaboration of its members. In addition, PaRD uses synergies with existing networks and initiatives to contribute towards a more coherent, inclusive and effective international agenda on religion and development. PaRD has three areas of engagement:
- Knowledge Exchange
- Capacity Building
- Joint Advocacy
The General Assembly is co-hosted by PaRD partner World Council of Churches and the PaRD secretariat as well as supported by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA. The meeting will be held at Château de Bossey, Chemin Chenevière 2, 1279 Bogis-Bossey, Switzerland.
