The International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) is publishing its brochure “Faith-sensitive Approaches to Gender Equality and Empowerment” in time for the 16 Days of Action against Gender-based Violence (November 25 to December 10, 2024), which draw global attention to violence against women as a critical human rights issue.
This publication celebrates the powerful role of religious actors in championing gender equality and showcases innovative strategies aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5). Featuring twelve impactful faith-sensitive initiatives from diverse regions around the globe, the booklet highlights a variety of approaches aimed at addressing the systemic inequalities that affect women and girls. Each example underscores how religious and cultural sensitivity can serve as powerful tools for overcoming barriers, driving positive change, and fostering inclusive solutions to complex gender challenges.
A Collaborative Effort for Change
Religious actors are uniquely positioned to challenge and transform societal norms, driving inclusive change within their communities. This booklet is a testament to their ability to tackle complex gender issues through culturally informed practices that encourage collaboration across faiths, regions, and sectors.
The creation of this publication began with PaRD’s Gender Equality and Empowerment Workstream members gathering examples of faith-sensitive initiatives that address gender equality. The Workstream was fortunate to receive numerous strong and diverse submissions, each reflecting the wide-ranging efforts being made around the world. PaRD is deeply grateful to the organisations that contributed their insights, which have been carefully summarized in this booklet. The result is a compelling and comprehensive collection that demonstrates the tremendous potential of faith-sensitive approaches to fostering gender equality.
As the global community observes the 16 Days of Activism, PaRD’s publication serves as a timely reminder of the critical role faith-sensitive initiatives play in the ongoing pursuit of gender equality.
