PaRD Podcast at Geneva Peace Week

For the first time, all of the four work-streams of the International Partnership on Religion and Sustainable Development (PaRD) have developed together a common podcast, discussing religious actors and COVID-19 at Geneva Peace Week 2020.

PaRD brings together governmental and intergovernmental entities with diverse civil society organisations (CSOs) and faith-based organisations (FBOs), to engage the social capital and capacities vested in diverse faith communities for sustainable development and humanitarian assistance in the spirit of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

As Geneva Peace Week will take place virtually this year, participants have been asked either to do live online sessions or produce digital products contributing to the theme: Rebuilding trust after disruption: Pathways to reset international cooperation.

The PaRD suggested product was selected to contribute to the digital series being launched as part of Geneva Peace Week 2020. Co-leads and group members from various work-streams have chosen to work on a podcast reflecting local voices from different faith backgrounds and geographical areas. The podcast touches on Identifying Funding and Resource Gaps with COVID-19 in the Field: A Religious Actors Perspective on Health, Gender, Environment and Peace. The podcast will be available for download during the Geneva Peace Week from November 02 to 06, 2020.

COVID-19 has presented and exacerbated vastly differing challenges towards meeting health, environment, gender and peace needs particularly in different developing contexts. While some of these challenges had existed prior to COVID-19, the health crises have only made the work of religious actors more relevant, yet with the restrictions surrounding the pandemic, more difficult. In order for Faith based organisations, international non-governmental organisations and governments to appropriately act and tailor their actions to best alleviate the needs of those who suffer the most, it is important to identify what resources are severely lacking and where is funding most needed.

The 40-minute podcast includes different voices from various local and international religious actors from India, United Kingdom, Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar and Thailand on the challenges they faced with COVID-19 within their communities.
