The hybrid event was hosted by the Church of Sweden, Diocese of Stockholm, and speakers and participants from all over the world took part online. Various speakers came to talk and underline creation justice.
Rev Henrik Grape, WCC senior advisor on Care for Creation, Sustainability and Climate Justice, emphasised the justice component of climate change and spoke on behalf of vulnerable communities who have a negligible carbon footprint. Meera Karunananthan of Carlton University, Canada and the Blue Planet Project pointed out the connection between water and climate change. Rev Rachel Mash, environmental coordinator of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa, spoke about water justice in the context of her church. She highlighted the “Zero Day” in Cape Town, South Africa, a few years ago, which was a wake-up call for the city and the whole world to use water responsibly.
Introducing PaRD’s WECARE Work-Stream
Juliane Stork and Joan Okitoi-Heisig, Co-Leads of PaRD’s WECARE Work-Stream, introduced the work of WECARE. They outlined the recent project of a mapping exercise of religious-based organisations and their engagement in ecological issues. The mapping provided data of 200 religious-based organisations from around the world.
